Poetess Avuaiyar's Four Crore Songs | Nalu Koddi (4,00,00,000) Padalgal

Poetess Avuaiyar was approached by some dejected poets from a Chola Kingdom. The poets were upset by the fact that their King had asked them to come up with a four crore poems by next day (1 crore is equivalent to 1,00,00,000 or ten million; note the Indian system of using separators 2,2,3-digits as opposed to the universal system of 3,3,3-digits). Noting their difficulties, poetess Avuaiyar told them not to worry and that she would personally deliver the 4 crore songs herself. She figured in her own mind that the King would have never asked the poets to compose literally 4-crore songs overnight but must have meant figuratively.
By next morning she had composed four couplets that all ended with a sentence கோடி பெறும் (koddi perum) meaning equal to a crore. No doubt the King listened to the poetess and recognized her amazing ability not only to compose meaningful poems but understood what he wanted in the first place. She was rewared with Gold and Silver. I have given below those four couplets and their meaning in Tamil and English.Enjoy!
கோடி 1.
மதியாதார் முற்றம் மதித்து ஒருகால் சென்று
மிதியாமை கோடி பெறும்.
உரை 1: நம்மை மதிக்காதவர்கள் வீட்டி வாயிலை (முற்றத்தை) மிதிக்காமல் இருப்பது ஒரு கோடிக்கு சமமாகும்.
Meaning 1: If you manage not to visit those who don't respect you that is equivalent to one crore.
கோடி 2.
உண்ணீர் உண்ணீர் என்று ஊட்டாதார் தம் மனையில்
உண்ணாமை கோடி பெறும்.
உரை 2: அருகில் அமர்ந்து சாப்பிடுங்கள், சாப்பிடுங்கள் என்று உபசரிக்காதவர்கள் இல்லத்தில் (வீட்டில்) உணவு அருந்தாமை ஒரு கோடிக்கு சமமாகும்.
Meaning 1: If you manage not to eat at one's house where the host is not hospitable that is equivalent to one crore.
